This Meramec River Home is positioned on an elevated peninsula that extends into the river's valley to create a wonderful vantage point for observing the river's activity all year long. There is an ever changing mix of wildlife featuring whitetail deer, wild turkeys, bobcats, ground hogs, raccoons, foxes, migrating waterfowl, song birds, bald eagles, dragonflys, and butterflys.
The Ozark foothills are covered with dense oak woods, down to the river's edge in many places. Sycamores, maple and river birch are native to the rivers edge and seed themselves every spring. This natural landscaping provides wonderful shade and fall color everywhere they are allowed to flourish.
In the spring, dogwood and red bud trees suddenly expose themselves throughout the woods and trails.
The river runs east-west - so if you are a fisherman, and on the water at sunup or sundown, you will be enthralled by the blazing sun as it bursts over the oak-covered bluff into full daylight in the morning or the soft pink and gold tones sparkling on the river's surface to the west at sunset.
Winter is the quiet time at the home on the Meramec. The bird and animal chatter is less urgent and an occasional snow will blanket their homes as well as your's. The river runs lower and thus, more slowly so that ice forms along the edge during cold spells.
